Pollock Cranes named as Steamers and Volcanix Back of Jersey No. 14 Sponsor

If you've ever needed a crane, then you've definitely heard the name Pollock.

Pollock Cranes is a Tauranga based company that house the largest crane and transport fleet in New Zealand. Their field of operations extends throughout the "Golden Triangle" (Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty) of crane hire, heavy haulage & Truck Loader Crane & Transport needs.

You'd think that a company with such a broad commercial reach would have their alliances blurred when it comes to its provincial rugby team of choice, but you'd be wrong - Pollock Cranes bleed blue and yellow!

That is why the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union is pleased to officially announce and congratulate Pollock Cranes on becoming the official Steamers and Volcanix No.14 back of jersey sponsor for 2021.

"We were in a position to sponsor and wanted to support local," says Pollock Cranes Managing Director Wayne Slater.

"We saw synergy with supporting the Bay. We are working in Waikato and Auckland, but we are born and bred here, so that's who we will always support."

Wayne and his brother Thomas, who is also Operations Manager of the company, are keen rugby enthusiasts who grew up playing the game in the Bay and have always been passionate supporters of the Steamers and Volcanix.

Years later, they have had families of their own where their kids play for Te Puna in the JMC.

"We enjoy watching and playing, turning up to club events and love how it brings the community together," says Slater.

"We enjoy the game and just want to see the Steamers and Volcanix win at the end of the day!”

"Hopefully, both teams are successful. We don't have any real expectations from this partnership aside from our desire to help the BOPRU and its two sides have a great season.”

"We know that the BOPRU can't do the great job they do without the support of local businesses!”

The Steamers host a pre-season game against North Harbour at Katikati Rugby Club next Friday July 30 before officially kicking off their Bunnings Warehouse NPC season at home against Tasman on August 8 at Tauranga Domain Stadium. Home game tickets are on sale now by clicking here and the Steamers 2021 squad will officially be named on Tuesday July 27.
