For the last 12 months, a small team of Māori Rugby supporters have been tirelessly working in the background to resurrect Te Waiariki Māori Rugby. Not since the Covid-19 global pandemic has Te Waiariki Māori Rugby fielded Māori rugby teams in any Māori rugby tournament.
Led by two Bay of Plenty Rugby Directors Warena Morgan, Whetu Rangi, outgoing Community Rugby Manager Pat Rae, Rangataua Kaumatua Aramahou Ririnui, school principal Tane Bennett and Te Teko & Eastern Bay of Plenty Rugby Kaumatua Timi Peri, this small group of people are proud to announce that Te Waiariki Māori Rugby is looking to become it’s own Incorporated Society.
A draft constitution has been formulated (thanks to fellow BOP Rugby board director Sam Fellows) and now the next step is to call for any other passionate Te Waiariki Māori Rugby people to become members of this new society, provide feedback on the proposed constitution, attend a General Meeting of Te Waiariki Māori Rugby, ratify and adopt the new constitution and elect it’s first group of office bearers.
Board Director Warena Morgan comments, “It’s been a long process to get to this stage and I am excited for what lies ahead. I’m thankful to have such passionate people around me to get us to where we are right now.”
