The old saying goes - the game does not happen without a referee...

With Junior Rugby kicking off soon, now is the time to upskill in a role which gives you the best seat in the house, and enable you to truly Serve the Game!

Bay of Plenty Rugby's Associate & Junior Referees Course is aimed at equipping referees with the basic skills they need to referee Junior Rugby. Instead of unpacking the lawbook in its entirety, the focus is on the hints and tips which will help you as a referee on the field, to be in the right place, ENJOY yourself, and make the right call for the game. In essence, you'll learn how to best facilitate the game for the kids running around playing it.

The course is delivered in two modes; to complete the Course, you can choose one or the other, or both:

• Practical
• Online Modules

Three practical sessions are scheduled for 2021, duration is approx 60-80mins:

• Mount Maunganui (BOPRU) - Saturday 1st May 2021, 9:30am

• Rotorua (Marist St Michael's Rugby Club) - Wednesday 5th May 2021, 6:00pm

• Whakatane (Rugby Park - Referee's Pavilion) - Wednesday 5th May 2021, 6:00pm

Can't make one of the practical courses, or prefer to complete the course via the Online Modules? No problem! You select whichever works best for you.

Simply register below to attend the practical course, or receive access to the Online Modules. Even if you attend a practical course, you will also be given access to the online content to refer to as a resource. Best of all, this course is FREE!

What do I get?

• Everyone who registers and completes the course will receive free access to all Bay of Plenty Rugby Steamers and Volcanix home round robin games via a digital Photo ID (head/shoulders photo must be supplied to access this).
• All practical course participants will also receive an Introduction to Refereeing workbook, and a copy of the NZR Domestic Safety Law Variations.
• All registrants will have special pricing access to purchase an ACME Thunderer whistle via the online registration form.
