Coach McLean to lead Bay of Plenty Volcanix


Bay of Plenty Rugby announced today the appointment of Kyle McLean as Head Coach of the 2023 Volcanix to compete in this years Bunnings Farah Palmer Cup.

We are excited to welcome Kyle come on board to lead the Volcanix team for the 2023 campaign. He brings a skill set to the table that we feel will have massive benefit to the team along with assisting in developing our coaches who are involved in the female game, said Rodney Gibbs, BOPR GM – Performance.

Gibbs continues, Kyle’s experience and knowledge of coaching at all levels of the game will be invaluable for the Nix to continue the momentum of last year, led by head coach Brent Kaua, who has moved on to being an assistant coach for this years Chiefs Manawa team alongside his wife and head coach Crystal Kaua.

I feel blessed to have the opportunity to coach the Volcanix and contribute to growth of the team, Womens rugby, the Bay of Plenty community and all the wonderful people involved in the game, said Kyle McLean.

McLean continues, The challenge is an exciting one and I know our coaching and management team will work hard to create an awesome environment for the players to thrive and play some quality rugby. 

Kyle said, There have been some passionate coaches and development staff over the years, who have worked tirelessly to contribute to taking the Women’s game forward. I look forward to building on their amazing efforts.  

The 2023 Bunnings Farah Palmer Cup begins 15th July and the final being played on 9th September with the full draw yet to be released.

Note: The Bunnings Farah Palmer Cup is the National Provincial Rugby Competition played between 13 Womens Provincial Union Teams. The competition is divided into 2 divisions, the top division being the Premiership and the Championship. Bay of Plenty plays in the Premiership.
